2014 Villa I Cipressi Brunello di Montalcino

Responsibly Farmed
Hidden Gem

This 100% Sangiovese is smooth and inviting with bright acid and well-integrated tannins. Aged for 24 months in French oak barriques and bottle aged for at least 24 months. Produced using organic farming practices, hand-harvested fruit, and native yeasts. Allow 30 minutes to breathe before enjoying.

Decanting, or “letting a wine breathe,” allows oxygen to interact with a wine, which can change the texture of its tannins and render it more approachable (that is, easier to drink) in its youth.

The Villa I Cipressi Estate was born in the mid-seventies when Hubert Ciacci decided to expand his father’s small beekeeping business. The turning point came in the 90s when Hubert acquired more land fuelled by the desire to produce olive oil and fine wines. Today, Hubert, Patrizia and their sons Dario and Federico manage the entire estate, each in their own sectors. Hubert’s wealth of experience oversees the family affair with Federico in charge of the honey and wine production, Dario in charge of sales and marketing, and Patrizia contributing as brand manager. The family’s love of nature and great ecological spirit has led to the choice of using solar power as a basic energy supply and the desire to convert the estate’s production to follow the principles of organic agriculture.

Villa I Cipressi started to produce Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino in 2000. The winery has 3.5 hectares of Sangiovese vines in two locations. One is in the south part of the municipality in the area of Castelnuovo dell’Abate. It is 250m above sea level with primarily silty, sandy soil which gives the grapes great structure and elevated alcohol content. The other is in a wooded area on the western side of the hill at 450m above sea level. It consists of mostly limestone, but with a slight presence of clay which produces wines that are especially fragrant and aromatic. Both lots are south-facing, allowing for the perfect maturation of the grapes. The two vineyards, different in soil and microclimate, allow for a blend that enriches the quality and complexity of the wine.
