2018 Opus One

Classic in Style

Opus One is the realized dream of two men: Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux and Napa Valley vintner Robert Mondavi. The wine is beautifully balanced and marked by smooth tannins and fresh acidity that combine to create a soft, creamy mouthfeel and extend the flavors into a long persistent finish.

The soft and warming undertones of vanilla and sweet baking spice found in the wine can be attributed to its 18 months of aging in new French oak prior to bottling.

Opus One is the joint venture of Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Bordeaux’s famed Château Mouton Rothschild estate. The pair’s goal was to create a Bordeaux-inspired blend entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley; today, it has become one of the most sought-after bottles for collectors and full-bodied red wine lovers alike. Opus One was first crafted in 1979 and released a few years later. In 1993, the duo created a second cuvée, Overture.

Opus One was first brought to life in 1970, when Rothschild and Mondavi met for the first time in Hawaii. Mondavi sold 35 acres of land within the Oakville AVA to be dedicated to the project, and by 1985, the limestone winery was born. Opus One is one of the most coveted and widely sold wines across Asia and the United States. This epic partnership marks the shared vision of two forward-thinking winery pioneers and promises to leave an iconic mark on the world’s viticultural legacy.
