Château de Calavon | Provence, France

Located in the quaint village of Lambesc, found in the heart of France’s Pays d’Aix, Château de Calavon has been crafting world-class wines from regional grapes for five generations. The estate is spearheaded by the Audibert family, who works their exceptional terroir with meticulous attention to detail. Every vineyard in Lambesc is farmed 100% organically, rendering the village a benchmark pioneer for the rest of Provence.

The entire staff at Château de Calavon is dedicated to producing strong and structured wines that highlight elegance and character. The Château, Tradition and Réserve cuvées offer a wide variety of concentrated and expressive wines, available in red, white, and rosé format. With winemaker Sébastien Philibert at the helm, Château Calavon perpetuates tradition, while aiming for the highest quality of wine with balance and finesse.

The vineyards of Château de Calavon are made up of small, terraced plots that are sometimes inaccessible and often difficult to work. The vineyards have a stony, clay-limestone soil and sit on hills with south-east facing exposure. Their vines are a part of the coveted “Terroir du Mistral” in the appellation Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence. The famous mistral winds allow for early harvesting of the grapes, preserving the concentration of flavor acquired during the high heat of the summer.

The wine is made in a 17th century house in the heart of Lambesc village. This 100 year old cellar used to be an ancient coaching inn that the Audibert family renovated into winemaking facility five generations ago. The rosé was made via direct press of Grenache and Syrah that is blended together with the Vermentino. The blending process is followed by low-temperature vinification in stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness.
