Maître de Chai is the personal project of Marty Winters and Alex Pitts. The two first met at Sonoma’s Cyrus restaurant. Marty went on to run the wine program at Meadowood while Alex moved onto The French Laundry and later cult Sonoma Winery, Scholium Project. In 2012, Alex and Marty founded Maitre de Chai. They focus on site specific wines that translate a sense of place. The Herron Vineyard is a 1.6-acre, cool-climate site in the Sonoma Mountain AVA with 65-year-old dry-farmed, organic vines.
