The 2024 Hanna Glatzer Carnuntum Blaufränkisch is a compelling portrait of one of Austria's most exciting red wine regions — and one of its most underrated grapes. Hanna makes this wine at her family's estate in Göttlesbrunn, which she runs with her father Walter and brother Matias. Carnuntum is a small region southeast of Vienna, once a Roman frontier city, where the warm Pannonian climate and loamy-clay soils laced with sand and gravel produce structured, expressive reds. The fruit comes from certified organic vineyards in and around the village.
Deep ruby with violet hues, this Blaufränkisch opens with vibrant aromas of sour cherry, wild raspberry, and dried violets, accented by a whisper of black pepper and earthy minerality. The palate is elegant and light to medium bodied with silky tannins, bright acidity, and a long, spice-laced finish that lingers beautifully. A wine that punches well above its price point.
