La Bernarde 'Les Hauts Du Luc' Cotes de Provence Rosé
A dry Provence rosé from a hilltop vineyard that sees snow most winters, for anyone who likes their pink wine crisp and bright.
Château La Bernarde is in the village of Le Luc, in the Côtes de Provence appellation. Its land has been prized for red wine since the 18th century. The Meulnart family built its modern reputation in the 1980s, and Philippe Austruy bought the estate in 2015. It sits next door to Commanderie de Peyrassol, which he also owns.
Les Hauts du Luc comes from a southeast-facing site at around 350 meters, high enough that harvest comes about ten days later than lower down. The soil is clay and limestone, full of stones. The vineyards are farmed organically, and the wine ferments with native yeasts and ages in stainless steel. Expect strawberry, blood orange and nectarine, then melon, grapefruit, lemon blossom, a hint of dried lavender and a wet-stone finish.
Pour it with grilled shrimp, a tomato tart or Vietnamese spring rolls. Serve it cold, around 45–50°F.
Our guide to Grenache explains the grape behind so much Provence rosé, and our rosé wines collection has more to explore.
