This cool-climate Syrah was handmade by Chase Carhartt in conjunction with Nathalia and Hannes Storm (of Storm Wines) in the heart of South Africa’s Western Cape.
Supple and medium-bodied, this Syrah is inviting with aromas of rose petal, black pepper, blackberry, coffee bean, and dried violet undertones. The palate highlights flavors of cranberry reduction, peppered meat, dried herbs, and cedar. Chase explains, “Gentle punch downs and delicate extraction techniques were employed throughout, which I think is realized in this refined Syrah. Coupled with the relatively cool climate of the vineyard site, the 2020 vintage showcases all of the beautiful layers a Syrah from the Hemel en Aarde has to offer. Drink now for freshness, or age for the next 5-10 years as layers of this wine unfold and express themselves.”
Organic farming practices and only 100 cases produced.
This is a team favorite with a burger, but you can also enjoy it with short ribs, veggies and sausages, or local dishes like this Cape Malay Chicken Curry.
