2020 Torbreck Woodcutter’s Barossa Valley Shiraz

- Table Talk Syrah, Shiraz? Same thing. While the latter is what the grape goes by in Australia, the former is its name basically everywhere else.
Pete Kight, owner of Torbreck, has long felt a strong commitment to Australia’s Barossa region, as well as its potential for top-quality wines. As of 2008, Kight’s dream finally came to life. For the past 13 years, Torbreck has crafted high-quality wines from estate-grown fruit, focused mostly on the three main varieties of France’s Rhône Valley: Shiraz (Syrah), Grenach, and Mourvèdre.
Torbreck’s wines are crafted with mineral intervention and are built to last for years in the cellar. As their website clearly states, provenance is everything to the estate. Wines from Torbreck are concentrated, fruit forward, and laden with flavor. While beautiful in their youth, these rich and powerful wines are built to withstand the test of time – though we wouldn’t blame you for snagging a few and cracking into one or two now for good measure.

2021 Anza Diego Magaña Rioja
This Tempranillo-dominant wine is made with a touch of Garnacha, Graciano, Mazuelo, Viura, and Malvasía Riojana. 2019 Domaine Alain Burguet Gevrey-Chambertin ‘Les Champeaux’ Premier Cru
This wine is for a Pinot Noir oenophile.
The ‘Les Champeaux’ premier cru vineyard was planted in 1987 on the northern edge of Gevrey-Chambertin. It’s located high up on the slope with south-east facing exposure which allows for slow and steady ripening. The result is a wine with great purity, structure and incredibly silky tannins.
Biodynamic farming practices, hand-harvested, native yeast fermentation, unfined/unfiltered, vegan-friendly, and only 75 cases produced.

2020 Chateau du Cèdre Cahors Malbec
When you see Malbec, you probably think Argentina. However, the Malbec grape is actually native to Cahors and the French expression of this grape is deep, earthy and structured. It’s a total 180 from the common, fruit bomb Malbecs that line the shelves today. Next time you make a burger, pop this guy instead of your typical Cab.
