Damilano is one of few traditional, ancient, ultra-centenary Barolo wine makers.
In fact, the Damilano family has been active since 1890 when Giuseppe Borgogno, the great-grandfather of the current owners, started farming and making wine from the family-owned vineyard in Barolo (Cuneo), the town in the Langhe area that the homonymous wine was named after; a beautiful and generous land that has been the heart of the vocation to produce the “king of wines” for centuries.
It wasn’t until the following generation, though, that Giacomo Damilano, the founder’s son-in-law, gave the current name to the winery. It was he who gave the stimulus to preserve the vines and apply constant innovation in the quality of the winemaking process, making the winery become a “jewel” to proudly pass on to his nephews, who manage the company since 1997.
Guido, Mario, and Paolo Damilano have been capable of giving new lymph and push to the family company, particularly giving value to the prince grape of the Langhe, the Nebbiolo, and specific terroirs, the Cannubi above all.

2020 Domaine Rougeot Père et Fils Volnay-Santenots Premier Cru
2020 was a great year for Burgundy in terms of quality, but not quantity. Yields were low and stock is hard to come by. Get it while to can, especially since the following vintage, 2021, was a catastrophe.

2020 Chateau du Cèdre Cahors Malbec
When you see Malbec, you probably think Argentina. However, the Malbec grape is actually native to Cahors and the French expression of this grape is deep, earthy and structured. It’s a total 180 from the common, fruit bomb Malbecs that line the shelves today. Next time you make a burger, pop this guy instead of your typical Cab.
Certified organic farming practices, hand-harvested, aged for 20-22 months in new oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

This wine is for a Pinot Noir oenophile.
The ‘Les Champeaux’ premier cru vineyard was planted in 1987 on the northern edge of Gevrey-Chambertin. It’s located high up on the slope with south-east facing exposure which allows for slow and steady ripening. The result is a wine with great purity, structure and incredibly silky tannins.

2022 Mauro Marengo Dolcetto d’Alba
It’s rare that you come across an up-and-coming producer from a region as historic and notable as Piedmonte. Nevertheless, it does happen, and when it does it FIRES US UP. This wine is medium-bodied with light, soft tannins so it pairs well with just about any Italian dish. There’s a reason why this is what the locals drink.
