2022 Sette Barbera d’Asti DOCG Nizza Monferrato

Gino della Porta & and renowned Barolo winemaker, Gianluca Colombo are the faces behind the Monferrato-based winery, Sette. Sette is dedicated to producing high-quality Barbera d’Asti wines. Their vineyard, located in Nizza Monferrato, spans five and a half hectares and produces incredible wine due to its unique advantages, such as diverse terroir with limestone, chalk, sandy limestone, and excellent climate conditions conducive to organic and biodynamic farming.
The goal of Sette is to produce wines that transcend cultural and regional expectations using ecological, organic, and biodynamic methods. Gino encourages experimentation to discover the true expression of their terroir, aiming to create “naked Barbera” that he says reflects their unique environment. Upon acquiring their vineyard, they found it heavily altered by chemical use for large-scale production. They refrained from any interventions in 2018 and 2019 to allow the vineyard to detoxify. Starting in 2019, their second season under organic cultivation, they planted cruciferous plants to regenerate the soil. Despite neighboring vineyards’ poor condition, their vineyard retains tall and fruit trees. Gino and Gian Luca plan to enhance biodiversity further by planting over forty regional trees, including fruit-bearing varieties, to recreate a more natural environment.

2022 Domaine Caroline Bellavoine Bourgogne Rouge
Caroline Bellavoine is the talk of the town. Her tiny production of old-vine Pinot Noir from the lesser-known Côtes du Couchois is pure, rustic, and deeply expressive of its unique terroir. It’s old-school Burgundy through and through – seriously complex and not for the faint of heart! Decant for 1 hour before enjoying.
Organic farming practices, native yeast fermentation, unfined/unfiltered, aged for 18 months in French oak barrels and only 150 cases produced annually.

Scribe, a pioneer of terroir-driven winemaking in Sonoma, makes one of our all-time favorite Pinots. Invite a few close friends over for an intimate dinner, light some candles, play some jazz and serve wild mushroom risotto topped with fish, chicken or as is! This Pinot will go with it all.
