Perched between the Mediterranean Sea and steep hills, the village of Varigotti is home to the Ruffino family, who have tended their terraced vineyards for over 500 years using time-honored methods. Today, four siblings run the Punta Crena estate, crafting wines that reflect deep local tradition and the unique character of their coastal terroir. With all vineyards located within 1,200 meters of the sea, cooling breezes keep the grapes healthy without the need for chemicals—though the family scoffs at the term “organic,” insisting they simply farm as their ancestors did. Specializing in rare, nearly extinct indigenous varietals like Mataòssu, Crovino, and Barbarossa, their wines are lively, unpretentious, and tailor-made for the local cuisine of seafood and garden-fresh vegetables.
