Anthony Thevenet is a rising star in Beaujolais, blending traditional winemaking techniques with modern styles that emphasize vibrant fruit and depth. After learning from notable figures like Georges Descombes and Jean Foillard, Anthony launched his own winery in 2013. His early career was marked by challenges, including the hot 2015 vintage and severe hail in 2016, but he demonstrated remarkable skill, producing compelling wines even under adversity. Anthony’s approach combines organic viticulture with meticulous vineyard work, aided by his father, Guy, who left a career as a Mercedes mechanic to support his son. Their wines are crafted through whole-bunch carbonic fermentation without cultured yeasts, and minimal sulfites are added only at bottling. Thevenet’s vineyards in Morgon and Chénas showcase the region’s diverse granite and metamorphic soils, which impart unique characteristics to his wines, ranging from elegant and aromatic to powerful and mineral-driven. With a commitment to organic practices and a deep respect for Beaujolais traditions, Anthony is carving out a reputation as one of the region’s most promising talents.
