Willi Bründlmayer is regarded as a pioneer in the Austrian wine industry and this wine is soooo good. It’s mouthwatering and fresh, with grip and so much flavor. I’m taking this home tonight and enjoying it with some Thai takeout.

“Nearly every wine, from the light Grüner Veltliner to the red wines and the sparkling wines, has the potential to be the best of that vintage in its category,” declares Peter Moser, editor and publisher of Falstaff Wine Guide, Austria’s most respected and comprehensive wine publication.

Willi Bründlmayer manages 90 hectares of vineyards in Langenlois, growing Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, St. Laurent, Zweigelt, and Burgundian varieties. In 2016, Andreas Wickhoff MW joined as general manager. The vineyards, located in the Kamptal region, benefit from a diverse terroir with unique microclimates and large diurnal temperature swings, crucial for a long growing season. The estate features famous vineyards like Zöbinger Heiligenstein and Lamm, known for their ancient sandstone and loess soils. Bründlmayer has old vines, some over 50 years old, and is certified organic by LACON, an outside, objective, certifying body. His winemaking process involves minimal intervention, with careful grape selection and blending techniques to enhance the wine’s complexity.

Grüner Veltliner is the signature grape of Austria, and by far the nation’s most widely planted wine grape. As Austria battles its way back to stardom on the international wine market, crisp, spicy Grüner Veltliner has been its flagship wine.

Grüner Veltliner is grown extensively in almost every Austrian wine region. The finest Austrian expressions come from vineyards above the Danube River, in Wachau, Kremstal and Kamptal.

Kamptal is a small, increasingly prestigious wine district located 55 kilometers (35 miles) northwest of Vienna, northern Austria. Steep, sunbaked, sparsely soiled terraced vineyards overlook the river Kamp. They produce some of the world’s finest white wines: rich, spicy Grüner Veltliner and flinty Riesling.
