The 2024 Bodega Cerrón (Stratum Wines) Matas Altas Monastrell is a biodynamic red wine from Jumilla, Spain, known for its focus on high-altitude, un-grafted old vines. This vintage is noted for being “fine-boned” and elegant, showcasing a move toward increased freshness and precision compared to previous years.
Bodega Cerrón is widely regarded as a pioneer in sustainable viticulture in Spain, specifically within the Jumilla region. Their farming practices are built on a philosophy of minimal intervention and deep respect for the land’s history. The estate was among the first in Spain to be certified organic in 1989. They have since fully embraced biodynamic viticulture and are certified by Demeter (as of 2021).
94+ from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate; Mostly de-stemmed. Indigenous yeast fermentation in open-top wooden vats. Aged in a mix of 500L to 5000L French oak foudres and barrels for approximately 12 months.

The 2023 Artazu Pasos de San Martín is a premium red wine from the Navarra D.O. region in Spain, produced by Bodegas Artazu (part of the renowned Artadi group). This wine offers aromas of ripe red cherry and plum, red flowers, and Mediterranean herbs like rosemary and thyme. It is medium-bodied and energetic with vibrant acidity, and fine, chalky tannins; Often described as having a “transparent and ethereal” quality while maintaining a voluminous side. Decanting is optional, but recommended.
Hand-harvested. Fermented in open-top vats with a 24-48 hour cold maceration, then preserving the skins for the duration of fermentation (10-12 days). Matured for 12 months in 500-liter and 600-liter French and Austrian oak barrels. 95-point score from James Suckling and 93-point score from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
