2022 Hofkellerei des Fürsten von Liechtenstein Herrnbaumgarten Cuvée
Picture panoramic view of jagged peaks, the hush of pine forests below, and sunlight sparkling off the snow – this wine is cystalline pure and alpine-fresh because that is what it’s made of. It captures the high-altitude beauty of Austria’s Weinviertel, with royal pedigree to match. This wine comes from the princely estate of Liechtenstein itself, the royal family’s historic winery that was established in 1436! This is the first wine from Liechtenstein we’ve offered so we figured we might as well make is royal as well.

The Hofkellerei des Fürsten von Liechtenstein embodies a winemaking tradition that spans over six centuries, deeply rooted in the heritage of the Princely House of Liechtenstein. Established in 1436 with the acquisition of the Wilfersdorf estate in Austria’s Weinviertel region, the winery has flourished under the family’s stewardship. In 1712, Prince Johann Adam I expanded the family’s viticultural holdings by acquiring the county of Vaduz, incorporating the esteemed Herawingert vineyard into the estate. Today, the Hofkellerei operates two primary domains: the Domaine Wilfersdorf in Austria, known for its Grüner Veltliner and Riesling cultivated on loess and limestone soils, and the Domaine Vaduz in Liechtenstein, where Pinot Noir and Chardonnay thrive on the southwest-facing slopes of the Rhine Valley. Committed to sustainable practices, the winery began transitioning its Austrian vineyards to organic farming in 2021, with the Vaduz vineyards following suit in 2022. This dedication to quality and environmental stewardship ensures that each bottle reflects the unique terroir and princely heritage of the Hofkellerei.
