How I Argaux: The Art of Aperitivo with Olivia Muniak
Olivia Muniak is a self-taught chef who grew up in a New York City restaurant family. She designs enchanting events for clients like Nike, Mytheresa, Moet Hennessey and Laura Mercier and has developed custom content and recipes for fashion and lifestyle and brands including Jenni Kayne and Anthropologie.
Her popular blog and IG feed is an ever evolving compendium of what she’s cooking (and eating), and a shoppable edit of her favorite kitchen and entertaining essentials.
Oliva’s entertaining M.O.? Settings should be candle-lit, evenings always begin with an aperitivo, and the conversation should be as delectable and inspired as the food. A good time around the table, she insists, spills into everything.
In 2019, newly arrived in Los Angeles, Olivia hosted a series of intimate dinners out of her tiny backyard. The multi-course family style meals, whipped up on her vintage stove, were as much about making new friends and connecting with a new community as they were about the thoughtfully presented food and wine. Supper Club, as she called the now-legendary gatherings at home, remains at the heart of everything she does.
Tell us about yourself, Olivia! Please introduce yourself to the Argaux community.
Hello! Growing up in a New York City restaurant family, and when I moved to Los Angeles six years ago I launched a Supper Club out of my tiny backyard in the West Adams neighborhood. That 30-person dinner was as much about creating meaningful connections and building a community, as it was about the thoughtfully prepared food and curated cocktails & wine. Those dinners turned into Muniak Studio offering bespoke event design and curated catering to companies like LVMH, Laura Mercier, Mytheresa, Lulu & Georgia, Wall Street Journal and many more.
How did your business concept come about? What is your goal with the company and where do you see it taking you personally and professionally?
When I moved from New York City to LA and was seeking a community, I couldn’t find it, so I built it. Once Supper Club was off the ground the business took, catering became a natural extension of the business through demand and my background in event production supported my clients, streamlining the conversation, offering both event design and catering.
I feel so grateful for the partners we’ve had to date and my goal for Muniak Studio is to expand our event design business, so often we are thought of just for catering but we offer full event design and production services.
Personally, my sights are set on a cookbook, launching a subscription platform for recipes (and video), as well as partnering with brands like Crate & Barrel, Williams Sonoma and luxury fashion brands like Dior, Chloe and Khaite.
You’ve curated events in some phenomenal places. What’s been your favorite destination/installation thus far?
Last year we flew with Aero, a semi-private jet company to Sun Valley, Idaho. It was an incredible dinner tucked into the mountains on a balmy, summer evening. Sun Valley holds a lot of special memories for me, so being able to bring my work there was meaningful. Next on my list would be a snowy event in Aspen.
When did you first fall in love with entertaining, food, hospitality, and everything that comes with it?
I’ve always felt a strong connection to food and the warmth of hospitality because I grew up immersed in the industry, and I loved it. My parents began a small cafe in New York City in the early 1980’s and the concept quickly became a New York City staple for quick, elevated lunch with multiple locations across the city.. I worked with my family for two years during grad school, then set my sights on Los Angeles. Shortly after landing in LA and purchasing my first home, I worked at Gjelina and spent six months in what felt like a crash course in wine, food and hospitality. I barely had two pennies to pinch together, a mortgage, and burned out quickly. But the magic of that time was being inspired by the food at Gjelina, I was starving coming home from work, shot from adrenaline of working at the restaurant for the day and cooking had always been a way to unwind for me, and that time is when I my self-education of being a chef began. And with lots of food being prepared, I craved
Can you tell us more about the La Cura Supper Club and your inspiration behind these events?
The idea was born very naturally, I was seeking environments where I would be able to connect and form relationships in Los Angeles. I found events like store or gallery openings, cocktail parties great to meet someone but a relationship was hard to form because the format of conversation was brief. So I manufactured an environment where people could do that. At a dinner one has the opportunity to drop into deeper conversation, and the memories that come from that evening linger almost as long as the good food and wine! The format was simple; cocktail hour for people to mingle and meet each other, followed by a three to five course meal, in a breathtaking setting. I place equal importance on the food & beverage, as I do the decor and service. We always have conversation cards or an educational component built in.
Four years later, we’ve designed supper club experiences for brands like Mytheresa, Wall Street Journal, Stella McCartney, Ruinart, and many more.
In your opinion, what’s the secret behind a good dinner party?
Atmosphere (ie lighting, temperature, aesthetics) Food & Drink, Conversation – this is the perfect blend.
In your own words, what is aperitivo?
Aperitivo is a verb. A drink and small bite with friends (or solo).
What is your favorite thing to sip on during aperitivo hour?
I’m a seasonal drinker so depending on the time of year I have a cocktail that becomes my go to for the season and then my palette changes; in summer I love a Mezcal on the rocks, in a margarita or something refreshing and effervescent like a spritz. Bordiga makes both a Bianco and Rosso, and I love to have them both on hand all summer.
How about favorite small bites that aren’t too filling but perfect to stimulate the senses before dinner?
This is such a good question – cheese and charcuterie platters have become such a trend they really are an appetite killer! My go-to dishes that are classically Italian aperitivo are: Crudite with Bagna Cauda (warm anchovy garlic butter) and focaccia bread, Grilled Vegetables (eggplant, asparagus, bell peppers, onions) with burrata & toast, and Seasonal Crostini Platter (smoked salmon, fig or peach & ricotta, eggplant caponata). My recommendation is if you have dinner planned is to skip setting out a second round and just move to dinner – or do like the Italians and serve Aperi-cena, a snack-time dinner!
You recently launched a line of linens, including some beautiful Aperitivo Napkins! Congratulations. What are some accents like these napkins that can help elevate aperitivo hour?
Elevating meals or Aperitivo Hour is simple, it’s all about thoughtful details. Decide on a specialty cocktail or a few, plus the wines and non-alcoholic beverages for the evening. Set-up a bar by where guests will be relaxing – I like a tray on a table, pull out the glassware, create an ice buckets (one for wine if serving, one for cocktail ice with a serving utensil) set out cocktail garnishes in a pretty dish. Skip anything disposable (if you must, I like the bamboo style especially in summer). If you are using disposable, I think its especially important to go with our Aperitivo Napkin and real flatware, it elevates the actual eating experience. Finally, for atmosphere candles, some fresh flowers or greens in bud vases.
Lightning Round:
- Italy or France? Italy
- Butter or Olive Oil? Both
- Stem or stemless (glassware)? Stem
- Negroni or Sbagliato? Negroni

‘Gaux-To Travel Guide: Provence, France
‘Gaux-To Provence: Our Travel Guide to France’s Sunny, Southeastern Region
Summer and Provence simply go hand in hand. Synonymous with sun-soaked days, turquoise-hued waters, and a seemingly endless supply of rosé, this serene French region is basically what dreams are made of—especially if visiting wine regions is up your alley. In honor of the summer months ahead, we’re highlighting this dreamy, southern French region—plus sharing all of our ‘gaux-to spots within it—here.
The Bigger Picture:
Provence is located in southeastern France, and is bordered by Italy and the Mediterranean Sea. Archaeological evidence shows that humans have inhabited modern-day Provence for over one million years, with more modern history dating back to the times of the ancient Romans and Greeks. The region’s many rivers, numerous mountain ranges, and seaside location have long made it a strategic place for humans to thrive. The region is home to multiple major cities, including its capital city of Marseille.
With regards to viticulture, France’s southern coast is mostly dominated by two main wine regions: Languedoc to the west and Provence to the east. Approximately 90% of Provence’s wine production is dedicated to rosé, though the region’s full-bodied reds and zesty, textured whites are equally not to be missed. A number of grape varieties are cultivated across the region, including Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Grenache, and Carignan for reds and Rolle (Vermentino), Grenache Blanc, and Clairette for whites.
How to Get There / Get Around:
No matter where in the world you’re coming from, getting to Provence is quite easy, though expect the journey to begin in Paris. If flying internationally, hop a connecting flight at Charles to Gaulle to Nice or Marseille—or even better, spend a few days in the City of Lights, then hop the high-speed train to the destination of your choice (or use it to connect via regional train to some of the smaller Provençal towns listed below).

‘Gaux-To Mexico City: Our Travel Guide to Mexico’s Capital City
Mexico City has become the go-to destination for food and drinks lovers around the world, and it’s really no surprise why. In addition to being accessible, budget friendly, and downright gorgeous, the city center is home to a number of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants and Cocktail Bars—as well as a slew of hidden gems to be discovered. Although the country’s main winemaking region, Baja California, is quite a hike away from the capital city, a number of domestic and international gems can be found at restaurants and bars abound.
The Bigger Picture:
Mexico City is the capital of Mexico, and is located in the central part of the country. While the city doesn’t necessarily provide easy access to beaches or winemaking regions, its food and beverage offerings—and number of hotel rooftop pools—certainly make up for it. The city’s climate is pretty moderate and consistent year round, with highs clocking in around the mid-70s to low-80s and lows never reaching below the 40s or 50s. The city is located at a whopping 7,200 feet above sea level, so don’t be surprised if you feel a bit lightheaded upon arriving!
The country’s most prominent winemaking scene, Baja California, is quite a hike from Mexico City; it’ll take you around 31 hours to drive—or a 3 hour and 40 minute flight—to reach the region’s capital city of Mexicali. Over 75% of Mexico’s wine production takes place in Baja California, with the Valle de Guadalupe being the most popular sub-region. A variety of grapes are grown here, from Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Grenache, and Italian red varieties to Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Colombard, and more.
How to Get There / Get Around:
Arriving to Mexico City from the USA is quite simple, as most major cities fly into the city’s main airport, Aeropuerto Internacional de la Ciudad de México. Within Mexico, accessing Mexico City is simple from a number of areas, including Cancun (2 hour and 25 minute flight), Oaxaca (1 hour and 15 minute flight), and more. Once in Mexico City, grabbing a taxi to the city center is simple, though we recommend doing so directly from the certified stands within the airport. Best of all, the journey should only cost you around $15.
Our Favorite Restaurants:
- Rosetta – Elevated Mexican cuisine served up in a stunning, plant-heavy courtyard
- Contramar – Absolute must visit for seafood lovers of all kinds; perhaps the city’s most famous fish-focused restaurant, known for its large dining room and big outdoor terrace
- Pigeon – Creative, Mediterranean-inspired food in an Art Deco building
- Entremar – Sister restaurant of Contramar—don’t skip on the tuna tostadas
- Orinoco Tacos – Trendy taqueria perfect for late-night (post-beverage) snacks
- Maximo Bistrot – Farm-to-table restaurant meshing French cuisine with Mexican ingredients
- Palapa – Caribbean-Mexican fusion served under a palm-thatched roof
Unmissable Wine & Cocktail Bars:
Although great meals are important, we believe that great wine / cocktails are just as—if not more—imperative. While CDMX is brimming with great places to imbibe, here are a few of the places that most captured our attention:
- Hugo – Natural wine bar with great food (we loved the radicchio salad /small plates so much that we went back a second time!)
- Kosho – Mexican / Japanese-influenced wine bar great for lunch or dinner
- Loup Bar – Natural wine bar in Roma Norte with great small plates
- IMBISS – Natural wine bar (that also serves up some serious fried chicken!)
- Salon Rosetta – Great place to head upstairs for a drink after dinner at Rosetta
- Licorería Limantour – A must visit! One of the best cocktail bars not just in the city, but in the world (be sure to visit the Roma Norte location)
- Hanky Panky – High-level speakeasy cocktail bar hidden within a bright-hued restaurant
- Brujas – Female-led cocktail bar inspired by strong female figures and Mexican herbalism
- Handshake Speakeasy – Old School speakeasy vibes with great drinks in a stunning space
- La Clandestina – Mezcal-forward bar with awesome music and a great vibe
Best Coffee Shops:
Coffee and traveling go hand in hand, so naturally we had to scope out the city’s best places to satisfy the need for caffeine. Here are a few of the coffee shops our team members fell in love with:
- Rosetta Panaderia – Delicious coffee and pastries in a rustic, plant-filled space
- Blend Coffee Shop – Laptop-friendly café with excellent cold brew!
- Quentin Café – Speciality coffee joint in Roma Norte
- Enhorabuena Café – Great place for coffee, chai, and food – also laptop friendly
- Chiquitito Café – Solid espresso-based drinks with numerous locations around the city
Neighborhoods to Explore:
- Roma Norte – By far the city’s most popular neighborhood amongst food-and-wine-loving travelers; considered the hipster area of the city, home to a ton of great restaurants, bars, and boutique shops
- Condesa – Near Roma, Condesa is a quieter, more art nouveau-inspired neighborhood with tons of dog parks, fancy boutiques, and large sidewalks – expect many lush, tree-lined streets and trendy taquerias
- Centro Histórico – Deemed the cultural center of the city, Centro Histórico is where you’ll find most of the city’s museums and art galleries, as well as political buildings and street vendors
- Colonia Juárez – Lively, dynamic area where many of the city’s young people live, home to a number of sidewalk bars and international restaurants, namely Korean eateries; the area is also home to the Zona Rosa, a gay-friendly neighborhood with many bars and clubs
Where to Stay:
- BrickHotel – Beautiful boutique hotel in Roma Norte with excellent on-site bar, great dining and shopping right outside the front door
- Four Seasons Hotel Mexico City – Luxurious, hacienda-style hotel with inner courtyard and 280 rooms, 40 of which are suites
- Sofitel Mexico City Reforma – Home to five bars and restaurants, 15-min walk to Roma Norte

Best wine gifts for tennis players
We love when the people in our lives have a passion: it makes them easier to shop for! Especially if they have two passions which conveniently intersect – for example, say, wine and tennis – all the better.
The start of tennis season is like Christmas for those of us who are fans of the sport. Celebrations abound, and it’s time for us to pop the corks on our favorite bottles, fire up the backyard grill, dawn our sporty visors and cheer for our favorite champs. If this is you, or someone you love, allow us to plant the seed of gift-giving into your minds: why not treat yourself (or the tennis fanatic in your life) to a little prezzie during this most wonderful time of the year?
To egg you on just a little further, we’ve put together this thoughtful list of goodies sure to delight the wine-loving tennis enthusiast in your life. Happy shopping!
7 best wine gifts for tennis players from Argaux
- 2021 Château de Montfrin ‘Paumiste’ Rosé – $18
This wine is perfect for court bunnies and serious tennis players alike. As we in the northern hemisphere move further into summer, rosés will swiftly wind their way back into our glasses as an ideal companion whether we’re languorously lounging, gleefully grilling, or resting with rackets tucked under our arms.
And this is the one we find ourselves reaching for year in and year out – it’s dry as heck, but full of fruit, florals and just a little bit of chalkiness that keeps the game oh-so interesting.
- Italian Food & Wine Gift Box – $100 – 125
Listen. It’s not all sport drinks, carrot salads, and lean chicken when you’re training for Wimbledon. Real athletes know that treating your senses to something delicious every now and then is a key part of prep, and this kit has all your bases covered — carbo-loading is a go with this artisanal semolina rigatoni and homemade marinara. Olive oil lends the lipids you need to pack that big brain full of healthy fats for quick thinking and strategy. And the Italian red or two gives you a well-deserved libation perfect for celebrating your big win on the clay. It’s all there, si?
- Lola James Harper Rue Saint-Honoré Candle – $50
Did you know that tennis originated in France as a game monks would play with palm fronds in their friaries? It’s no wonder tennis and wine go so well together – both of these things have the feeling of being iconically French, although each has taken the world by storm as a global phenomenon since the game’s invention.
May we suggest adding a little more French iconography to your cool-down routine following a long day behind the nets with this delicious scented candle – fragrance is a French fantasy, presented first in the heart of Paris, and made in France with French ingredients and to French standards. So while you’re icing, throw on an eye mask, light this candle, and let yourself be transported…
- Coucke L’Olivier de Provence Olive Tree Tea Towel – $18
How cute! We just adore this little cotton kitchen implement, such a perfect complement to a provincial picnic following a game or two, whether you’re playing or watching. It’s a versatile piece of fabric, too. Tied correctly it can serve as a perfect wine tote for your bottle of Paumiste, or to help you gently dry and polish the flutes before serving your celebratory glass of Champagne. We can also see it being the iconic cloth serious players use to wipe the sweat from their brow before bounding back onto the court. Take care to match it to your racket!
- Oracle Organic Greek Extra Virgin Olive Oil – $38
Our contemporary culture of sports across all genres got its start in the legendary Greek games, when athletes of warrior status would compete in feats of speed, strength, and cunning to bring honor to their families and cities. They wore very, very little to these events, and would coat their bodies in olive oil to keep themselves supple and moderately protected from the rays of the sun.
We’re not suggesting the tennis player in your life take this approach to the sport, or that the Oracle olive oil be used as a topical (hey, though, follow your bliss, truly.) But this delicious lipid does give the gift of taking any post-court meal to the next level with a flavor as complex and depthful as your favorite wine pairing. Drizzle on toast, over fresh mozz, on dolmas, salads, or anything your heart desires.
- Schott Zwiesel Tritan Pure Champagne Flutes (2-Pack) – $32
You won your match! Time to celebrate, so let’s break out the bubbly and pour it into these gorgeous Champagne flutes to get the after party started.
These flutes are as practical as they are beautiful, made from Titan crystal so you don’t have to worry about treating them preciously. The shape is designed to highlight the aromas of your favorite Champ as well as give you the smoothest possible sipping experience from start to finish. So they’re strong, smart, beautiful and durable – how athletic!

Spotlight on Italian Wine
Normally for these spotlight articles we would include a (very, very) brief history or overview of the wine culture within the region on which we were focused. Honestly, even the short version of Italy’s viticultural connections would require Chicago Manual formatting and a full citations page, and we just don’t have time for it. Maybe someday – stay tuned.
Winemaking’s true cradle of emergence is debatable, but Italy’s claim to the title is a strong one. We used to think that early Greek cultures brought the practice with them from one Mediterranean peninsula to the other. However evidence predating this migration indicates small-scale grape cultivation and wine production was happening as far back as the neolithic period in la stivale.
A few empires, many many wars, a whole lot of cultural evolution, and thousands of years later, Italy remains one of the world’s premier sources of delicious and varietous wines, spanning from the ultra-sophisticated, to the utterly accessible.
We’re obviously fans of the genre and have more than a few delectable small-batch Italian wines in our cellars at Argaux. Allow us to introduce you to a few of our favorites.
7 Italian wines from the Argaux collection
-
2022 Piero Mancini Sardinia Vermentino di Gallura – $22
This wine is from the sun-kissed island on Sardinia. Known as the “Yachtsman’s White” Vermentino is one of the greatest wines to pair with seafood.
-
2021 Piaggia Sangiovese ‘Pietranera’ Toscana – $25
This wine is so smooth and an absolute pleasure to drink. It is an unparalleled value for the level of quality and our ‘gaux-to weeknight Italian sipper.
-
2022 Cantine Carlo Mazzella Ischia Biancolella – $26
Sancerre, Gruner Veltliner, Vermentino lovers – This one’s for you. Grown on the volcanic island of Ischia, this wine quite literally tastes like the azure waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Our director of imports enjoyed this wine for the first time with a large bowl of pasta alla vongole after an ocean dip. “The salty sea still lingering on my lips and this light, crisp wine on that hot day was unparalleled.”
-
2019 Ettore Germano Barolo ‘Serralunga’ – $60
Ettore Germano is one of the best producers from the traditional appellation of Barolo making elegant and precise wines that respect the region’s heritage. The Barolo di Serralunga Ettore Germano is perfect for those who want to know the authentic and traditional face of Barolo. Young and powerfully composed, this wine is graceful, yet structured, and clear in the mouth.
- NV Ottomani Tuscan Organic Extra-Virgin Olive Oil – $35
Surprise – it’s olive oil!
Arguably just as storied as viticulture, olive and olive oil production has a history on all corners of the Med which parallels – if not rivals – its viticultural cousin. Olives are and were a hugely impactful crop in Italy and offer a meal staple which is consumed morning, noon, later afternoon, and night across the country.
This olive oil, like all the wines we keep in stock, is a blend of 4 different small-batch, hand-harvested fruits, and an exquisite addition to any recipe, as a matrix, or a drizzle to add fat and flavor to your meal. Our suggestion is to use it as a base for fresh basil pesto, served over absolutely anything.
-
2019 San Giorgio a Lapi Sangiovese Rosso – $20
Like a newly blossomed flower, this wine is fresh and aromatic. Its bright acidity, serious structure, and long, herbal finish will make you want to take a bite of food. Pizza, pasta, or salami and pecorino anyone?
- 2018 E. Pira Chiara Boschis ‘Mosconi’ Barolo – $135
Here’s the Barolo we know and love. This muscle-bound wine makes no bones about flexing its strength and power in the mirror each morning, and we can’t blame it – it knows what it’s about, and so do we. Rich, deep, dark and formidable, this wine has undeniable structure that provides incredible scaffolding for deep, fruity notes and spice-scrubbed leather.
Pair it with something unexpected, like a sesame-forward noodle and spicy bok choy.
Other offerings from Argaux
If you want to take your Italian wine experience to the next level, we’ve got more than a few gifts in the archives that will guide the way.
Distinctly missing from the above list is a bottle of bubbles, and we’re making up for that now by offering to you our Bargaux Cocktail Kit, featuring NV Sorelle Extra Dry Prosecco and Volume Primo vermouth. Also in the kit, crafty wine drinkers will find a recipe book chock full of instructions for creating delicious, surprising, and exciting cocktails – including and in addition to the ingredients in the kit.
Check out our gifts page for more kits, baskets, and treats from Argaux.

Wines for Wimbledon: Celebrate Tennis Season with Flavor.
When it comes to American sports culture, beer has a grand monopoly as the beverage of choice. At a soccer game? You’re drinking beer. Baseball? Beer. And ‘football’ is practically a synonym for a frosty mug of hops (although we have argued this point in the past.)
But amazingly, or un-amazingly, depending on your point of view, the world of tennis seems to emphatically prefer wine over its barley-based cousin as the refreshment of the day.
Many times over the past decade, viticultural giants including Kim Crawford have acted as the primary sponsors of various tennis championships. Individual partnerships between wine companies and professional players abound, for example Jacob’s Creek’s support of multiple tennis champs including one-time World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, who is also one of a few pro players to venture into viticulture following an iconic career on the clay.
And beyond the professional or contractual, tennis’ intersection with wine takes on a passionate look: in 2020, Delaware’s own Madison Brengle downed a commercial red blend courtside after an epic win during that year’s women’s US Open.
The conclusion we’re arriving at is: tennis and wine make an excellent pairing. So, as we’re kicking back to enjoy what promises to be an interesting season on the world’s courts, allow us to share with you what we’ll be swirling in our glasses.
Best corks to pop for tennis season
- 2021 Cantine di Marzo Fiano di Avellino DOCG – $26
This wine is the favorite of Argaux’s Margaux, and also very conveniently a refreshing and delicious choice for pairing with an afternoon courtside, or couched watching your favorite players go head-to-head on the clay.
Fiano grapes grown just inland from the Tyrrhenian Sea give a distinct mineral salinity to the terroir, which is otherwise a symphony of citrus fruits and botanicals. The balance of sweet and savory within this bottle makes it a versatile pairing for all your favorite sports-viewing snacks – we’re thinking a spicy sesame cabbage salad and Korean Bao.
- 2019 Edaphos Steel Plow Vineyard Grenache – $40
With this inclusion we’re raising our glasses to Brengle’s aforementioned iconic chug moment by the net – rarely seen alone, Grenache serves as the anchor grape for many of the world’s favorite red blends. We feel this grape deserves a little time in the spotlight herself, and this bottle is a prime example of Grenache excellence.
Another from Margaux’s list of seasonal favs, this single-vineyard Grenache offers a deep and velvety contrast to the more athletic white wine above. The organic and partial-carbonic red fronts summer fruits that spill into the early Autumn – much like tennis season itself – offering notes of cherry, blackberry, pomegranate and rose to your awaiting palate.
- 2022 Château de Montfrin ‘Paumiste’ Rosé – $18
No bones about it, this is the official wine for all your court-sport favorites, tennis and pickleball included. Light, dry, undeniably sporty, Paumiste is nonetheless a versatile rose which is ready and willing to accompany you anywhere, whether you’re pulling out your racket for a bout or sinking deeper into your favorite lawn chair while hot sausages sizzle away on the grill behind you.
Fruity notes, some botanics and a little bit of minerality lend a little electrolytic twist to the experience of this wine. We do urge you to remember to stay hydrated – the Paumiste will be waiting for you once you’ve drained your water glass.
- 2018 Château des Antonins Bordeaux Supérieur Rouge – $28
Tennis has long since broken up with the persistent image of it being a sport which is reserved only for the upper-echelons of society. Nevertheless there remains an air of elegance, grace and power in the play – think about Serena Williams clawing her way to the absolute top of the tennis food chain and playing with angelic poise and fury once she got there.
That was more or less our thought process in including this wine on our list – it’s the salt-of-the-earth, an accessible red blend from an historic Bordeaux vineyard packed with rich, dark flavors that are so very smooth and delicious. We know it’s a little conceptual – give it a try anyway.
- NV Gimonnet et Fils Blanc de Blanc Champagne Premier Cru (half-bottle) – $37
This Champagne teases some of the deeper and heavier Chard flavors with a little bread and a little dairy here and there on the palate, but it is ultimately a lean experience with shimmering fruit flavors we come to expect from minimally-oaked wines.
A cute and wonderfully effervescent half-bottle of bubbles to pop for a celebratory spray on your fav tennis champ, or – ideally – to pour into their flute for a well-deserved toast following the big moment. (You can drink it for them if they’re not actually present in your living room.)

Best Wine Gifts for Golfers
The classic vineyard and prosaic country club lawn are each a spectacle of luxurious, rolling green, and sometimes the odd chateau or two – perhaps this is where this ever-so-slightly weird association between the worlds of wine and golf begins. After a little digging, curious enthusiasts of either topic will find that the connection runs much deeper than a mere cosmetic similarity, and we think there must be something in the air (or perhaps the gene pool) that equally attracts certain individuals to both viticulture and this global sporting phenomenon.
A high proportion of pro golf players either make their own wine, or partner with vineyards. Likewise, multiple high-profile golf events – including the PGA – have an official tournament wine whose bottles are sold by the thousands green-side.
Culinary writer Bob McGinn proposes a commonality which is ultimately shaped by an objective of difference between the two worlds, saying: “…golf is unique among sports because it is played on various courses, none of which are the same…. Similarly, no two wines of the same varietal, produced by different wineries, are the same. Each winery strives for uniqueness instead of sameness.”
Whatever the serendipity that brings golf and wine together, it makes for a sure-fire shopping list when seeking a gift for the oenophilic golfer in your life. Here’s a quick list of presents guaran-tee’d to put a smile on their face.

Our Daily Red: 7 Red Wines You’ll Love
Red wine is an icon of the viticultural world.
Picking out a stand-out poster girl from a vast lineup of wholly unique varietals, preparations and experiences feels a little funny, but hear us out – what color did you fill the glass with when you were doodling angsty wine goblets as a teenager? What bottles feature on the table in every dinner scene in every romance movie ever? What fruits were called upon to describe the liquid spilled in every contemplative feminist poetry anthology you’ve read ‘til now? Is the answer red, red, red, red?
We thought so.
Beautiful, sensual, complex, and even good for you in moderation, red wine holds a very special spotlight on the global viticultural stage. It ranges from unknowable and unique to wholly accessible and totally drinkable.
We think it’s high time to celebrate the color that does so much heavy lifting in the wine world, so – here are a few of our favorite reds from the Argaux collection.
Our Daily Red Wines
- 2019 Flâneur Willamette Valley Pinot Noir – $28
Let’s start with a staple.
Pinot Noir is sometimes touted as the gateway wine into the richer, wider world of reds. It’s light, a little on the sweeter side, and a friendly hand to hold as you step further into the darker side of the tasting card – or as a weeknight imbibeable that will only demand as much from you as you have to give.
This is ours, a fruity and floral number that feels like sinking into your favorite couch cushion the moment you come home after a hard day in the field. She’s waiting for you with open arms – come take a sip!
- 2018 Domaine Alain Burguet Vosne Romanée – $125
And on the other end of the spectrum, this red is not for beginners. It’s recommended that the Vosne-Romanee spend a couple of years herself on the shelf before you pop the cork. A scaffolding of tannins will benefit from the softening, and the rewards you’ll reap thereafter are well worth it.
Little sister to the Burgundy region’s Echezeaux Grand Cru, this rough-diamond red is full of dark and wild fruits that conjure images of bare feet, loose curls and muddied linen dresses running between the vines on an overcast summer day.
- 2021 Storm Duvarita Vineyard Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir – $65
It is rare to find Margaux’s pantry empty of at least one bottle of this oceanic Pinot. It’s her absolute favorite, and may easily become one of yours as well!
This food-friendly Pinot can be your mealtime staple – its savory/sweet tasting profile truly goes with anything you could ever crave, so if you’re ever stumped for a pairing this delicious bottle is a safe bet.
Don’t feel obligated to match it with a meal, though. These grapes grew up in proximity to the softening winds of the California Pacific, so she’s smooth enough to sip all on her own.
- 2017 Domaine Rougeot Père et Fils Volnay-Santenots Premier Cru – $125
Drink it now, drink it later, drink it at your new baby’s high school graduation, it’ll be a unique and totally delicious experience no matter what you do. A Premier Cru grape, it’s an elegant draught with unmistakable depth and complexity that still manages to be friendly and delicious to the untrained palate. (Surprise! It’s another Pinot!)
A welcome dinner guest, this wine will pair best with your meat/carb combo dishes, such as burgers, saucy pastas, and sumptuous seafood preparations.
- 2019 Edaphos Steel Plow Vineyard Grenache – $40
We’re still getting to know this standalone Grenache, but we really truly love what we’ve experienced so far. This grape varietal often makes up the foundations of other red blends, or features in some favorite dark roses, so we’re thrilled that this hard-working uva is getting a little time in the spotlight with such an amazing example of the solo act it can pull off.
Fruits of the late summer and fall, a handful of rose petals, and a savory note on the back palate, this one very much wants to feature at your next dinner party.
- 2020 Gouchas Luján de Cuyo Carbonic Malbec – $22
Perfect for summer, this slightly effervescent and chillable red adds a little intrigue to the genre with something a little unexpected. And wow, is it delicious.
One of the best selling bottles of all time in our collection, this sparkly Malbec elevates our understanding of what this varietal can taste like – and we want more, more, more! Juicy, smoky, deep and dark, we’re thinking we add a handful of frozen raspberries and sip it on the back deck.
- 2021 Land of Saints Santa Barbara County Cabernet Sauvignon – $32
The smoothest of cabs, like a beret-wearing beat poet at the back of a smoky bar. Tasting notes border on the super-savory with peppery flavors that cut through the berry-flower-chocolate palate we come to expect from a simpler Cab. Pair with Gruyere, a dark singing voice, and a cherry wood table scarred from years of hosting great American novels written on grimy napkins. “Snap, snap, snap.”
Other offerings from Argaux
Want to get to know your reds a little better?
Our best-selling blind wine tasting kit is a fun and educational way to experience wines unfettered by the preconceived notions provided by any label (the writer may still be in the beat cafe at this juncture…)
Ahem.
The kit includes 2 to 4 bottles of wine which come wrapped to conceal their identities. An easy-to-follow tasting guide will hold your hand through the process of experiencing the liquid in your glass using all of your senses – with color, texture, and taste, you will be invited to make your best guess as to the wine’s identity which can be dramatically revealed at the end. Excellent as a party game, or as a way to hone your sommelier skills, select red as your wine style of choice to dive deeper into the sanguine side of viticulture.
Cheers!
The Best Wine Gifts For Big Milestones
We already know how to celebrate the big life-changing events in our lives. The engagement, the wedding, the birth, all mark significant thresholds that come accompanied with tried-and-true celebratory rituals – banquets, parties, presents, flowers, and maybe even a little confetti.
But what about the quieter occasions in between? What about the mundane triumphs, junctures, and rites of passage that, while they may not inspire a blowout bash, still deserve a toast?
Sometimes, the best way to celebrate the big milestones is by toasting to everything in between. After all, it’s about the journey and not the destination, right?
The ‘Year of Firsts’ Collection: a series of hand-curated wine gift sets designed to help newly betrothed, newlywed, and new parents celebrate each and every milestone with a flourish, is the perfect way to celebrate the big milestone and all the small ones that surround it, making it that much more special.
Perfect as a present for your loved ones, or yourself and your partner, each set in the Year of Firsts Collection helps the recipient to savor life and all its myriad gifts, from the monumental to the everyday. Let’s dive in and take a close look at what these curated kits have to offer.
Engagement Wine Gift Box
Planning a wedding can be incredibly stressful. The events following the happy proposal (congratulations, by the way!) are seldom known for their ease and navigability. But giving yourself permission to celebrate other landmarks between the engagement and the wedding itself can help you and your partner to remember the joy and love which is the reason for the season – even in the face of the frustration and logistical hiccups which are all too common when figuring out your big day.
The ‘Year of Firsts’ Engagement Wine Gift Box comes complete with 3 to 6 bottles of small-batch wine from the current Argaux collection, each tagged with a significant and celebration-worthy milestone including:
- Booked the Venue
- Said Yes to the Dress
- Set the Date
- One Month Countdown
- Marriage License, Check!
- Congratulations
- Let’s Celebrate!
There’s no hard-and-fast rule for when you’re allowed to pop these corks. Your engagement will be an absolutely unique experience, just like each of the wines included in your kit. We encourage you to take your time and toast to the little things in life when they happen – finalizing the flower arrangements, receiving the last RSVP, resolving a disagreement over the dishware with your mother-in-law-to-be. One by one, at once with your bridal party, or at the wedding itself, remember to do with it what makes you happy. It’s your day, after all.
Choose between red, white, or mixed wines and enjoy!
Wedding Wine Gift Box
Your wedding is supposed to be the happiest day of your life – but we’re encouraging you to take some of the pressure off by intentionally toasting to the moments of growth that come after you’ve said “I do.”
Anna Price Olson, Associate Editorial Director at Brides.com called this tasting set a “gift that keeps on giving.” What a beautiful and convenient analogy for happily married life, hm?
The ‘Year of Firsts’ Wedding Wine Gift Box includes 4 to 12 (count ‘em!) bottles of delicious red or mixed small batch wine from the current Argaux collection, urging you to say a hearty “salut” to such post-matrimonial moments as:
- Just Married
- Happy Honeymoon
- First Anniversary
- First Compromise
- First Addition to the Family (Baby? Puppy? Houseplant? You decide!)
- First Dinner Party
- Happy New Year
- Happy Valentine’s Day
- Happy Birthday
- Date Night
- Just Because
- Congratulations
With this kit, we want to remind newlyweds that life does indeed go on after the nuptials are done. You may need a good, long lie-down after, but there are so many sweet and savory moments that await in the forever that stretches past the altar. We hope this kit can serve as a delicious and delightful way to acknowledge the subtle details that lend their flavor to your lifetime of happiness.
New Baby Wine Gift Box
Really, something remarkable happens about every 5 minutes after welcoming a child into the world. We’ve narrowed it down a little with this kit, budgeting for a small-but-not-small celebration about every 2 months between birth and year one.
The ‘Year of Firsts’ New Baby Wine Gift Box includes 6 bottles of delicious small-batch wines from the current Argaux collection that we promise will be waiting for you when you’re able to imbibe again postpartum (maybe bottle 7 should be First Drink After Birth?). Each comes cutely bibbed with a serving suggestion for events that celebrate both your child and their parents, including:
- First Steps
- First Full Night’s Sleep
- First Date Night
- First Laugh
- First Word
- Congratulations
New parents, don’t worry about “getting it right” when choosing at which occasion to open these up – we promise you’re doing amazing, and any reason you can find to toast your kid, your co-parent, and yourself is good enough for us.
Housewarming Wine Gift Box
The perfect gift for new homeowners, the Housewarming Year of Firsts wine gift box comes with either 3 or 6 bottles. Each wine bottle commemorates a different “first” in the new home, such as “Received the Keys”, “Met the Neighbors”, and “First Dinner Party”. This is the truly thoughtful housewarming gift that will have the new homeowners thinking of you every time they pop a new milestone bottle!

7 Sommelier-Approved Rosé Wine Pairings
When pairing food with rosé wine, there are a few things to keep in mind. Most importantly, Acidity: Rosé wines often have a refreshing acidity that can complement a wide range of foods. Consider dishes that have a similar level of acidity, such as salads with vinaigrette dressing or dishes with lemon-based sauces. Sweetness: Rosé wines can vary in sweetness levels, from bone-dry to slightly sweet. Consider the sweetness of the wine when pairing with food. Sweeter rosés may complement spicy dishes or contrast with salty foods, while drier rosés may pair better with lighter, more delicate flavors. Herbaceousness: Some rosé wines may exhibit herbal notes, which can pair well with dishes that contain fresh herbs or green vegetables. For example, a rosé with hints of basil might complement a caprese salad or pesto pasta dish. Regional Pairings: Consider the origin of the rosé wine when choosing food pairings. For example, a Provence rosé from France might pair well with Mediterranean-inspired dishes like grilled vegetables, olives, or seafood, while a Spanish rosé could complement tapas or paella.
Ultimately, the best food pairing for a rosé wine will depend on its specific characteristics, as well as personal preferences. Experimentation and tasting different combinations can help you discover what works best for your palate.

Rosé wine is versatile and pairs well with a variety of dishes, from light salads to hearty mains.
Here are 7 sommelier-approved rosé wine pairings of our favorite recipes from our test kitchen as well as our go-to’s for the sunny weather:
- Seafood Pasta: The bright acidity of rosé complement the delicate, yet savory flavors of seafood pasta like our Swordfish Papardelle. The lemon and tomatillo in this dish are high in acid, and the little kick from dijon make this pasta a flavor bomb! Any rosé will be a wonderful sip, washing down these bright flavors.
- Watermelon Chaat: The sweetness of watermelon and the heat of the serrano chile create a perfect balance of flavors that pairs wonderfully with rosé. Add fresh mint and a squeeze of lime for extra depth, enhancing the wine’s fruit-forward profile.
- Margaux’s Halibut Ceviche: Rosé’s crisp acidity and red berry flavors complement the richness of halibut in this bold and fresh ceviche. The combination of fresh lime and orange juice, heat from the jalapeño, crisp corn and avocado will make you craving more summer nights.
- Pan con Tomate: The best, easiest appetizer for summer! Add this to your cheese board for your aperitivo hour featuring your favorite rosés.
- Grilled Summer Vegetables: Rosé’s versatility makes it an excellent match for grilled vegetables. Serve a colorful array of zucchini, bell peppers, summer squash, onions, and cauliflower, seasoned with olive oil, garlic, and fresh herbs like thyme and rosemary.
- Pepernota on Country Bread: These flavorful vegetables pair beautifully with a dry rosé from Provence. Made with a variety of veggies like tomatoes, eggplant, bell peppers, onions, and garlic, it complements the wine’s herbal and floral notes.
- A Classic Cheeseboard: Rosé is the perfect match for your cheese board for many reasons. Your cheeseboard will have an array of cheeses, fruits, nuts, maybe some olives, etc. and you want a wine that is versatile. Cue Rosé! Read more on the best wine for Charcuterie here.
These sommelier-approved recipe pairings highlight the versatility of rosé wine and are sure to enhance your dining experience this Spring.

7 Corporate Gift Ideas – Impress with Flavor
Wine has long been a favorite party favor in corporate circles. It makes sense: it’s elegant, thoughtful, and there are a myriad of flavors to choose from that suit all tastes and sensibilities. But having so many bottles to choose from can make it overwhelming, especially if all you’re trying to do is impress a prospective client… Here are some ideas from the Argaux cellars that will help you narrow it down.
Gifts for colleagues
We all have that one (or two or three) colleague we wish would celebrate their achievements a little louder, a little better. But we can often see the work of others better than they can see it themselves, so we have to step in and hype them up from time to time. Here are a couple gifts that can bring that home.
- 1-bottle Wine Gift Box – $50-150
Gift your favorite co-worker a tasty surprise with our single-bottle wine gift option. Don’t know what they like? Don’t worry! Our team of expert sommeliers will pick something for you – all you have to do is select the wine style (red or white) and the price point you’d like to pay and we’ll do the rest. It’s simple, elegant, and easy.
- Italian Food and Wine Gift Box – $100-125
We’re gonna go ahead and say this delectable basket of artisanal Italian delicacies should probably be a gift reserved for those you know relatively well. Criteria: you must have shared a meal with this person and have some cursory understanding of their dietary restrictions, because this box doesn’t skimp on the gluten or nightshades.Complete with 1-2 bottles of premium Vino Italiano from the mountains and shores of Europe’s favorite boot, as well as a box of choice semolina rigatoni, specialty olive oil, and a jar of Ciao Poppy’s classic marinara, this kit is a thoughtful way to inject a little zest into the annual company secret santa event.
Gifts for clients
Client gifting should be thoughtful. And by thoughtful, we mean it should make them think a little bit – or at least show them what it is that we’re thinking about, whether that’s a favorite cause, an innovative idea or product, or an exciting new pairing. Here are a couple gifts that come bearing a little extra meaning nestled in the crepe papier.
- Women in Wine Tasting Set – $85
Two delicious wines whose stories are just as deep and complex as the bottles themselves. When you’re packing these up to send to your best patrons, be sure to tell them all about it.
The 2021 Uphold Wines Rosé ‘For the Women’ donates the entirety of all its proceeds gleaned to a choice charity for women’s empowerment and liberation. And the 2020 Aslina Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon, created by the amazing Ntsiki Byela, comes from the first black female owned vineyard in South Africa and makes a point of employing women from the local village in an effort to found a better life for all.
Wines worth talking about, and wines that show clients you’re a business with a cause. - Local Wines – $85-150
Originally titled our ‘Gaux to California Wine Gift Box, this tasting set now showcases some of the best small-batch bottles the West Coast has to offer, including white and red wines from The Willamette Valley in Oregon, to the rolling hills of Santa Barbera.
We love shopping locally and supporting small, family-owned businesses. And we love it even more when we can taste the locale itself in the delicious terroirs these wines have to offer. Choose from red or mixed, and either the 2 or 3 bottle option and get ready to wow your clientele.
Gifts for closing
There’s really only one gift to properly celebrate a new deal with a client, partner, or recent hire – so without further ado…
- Champagne Gift Box – $50-150
The pop of a cork followed by an exuberant spray of bubbles is maybe (maybe) only topped as a synonym for celebration by fireworks or confetti. Maybe.
But we’re not a small-batch firework distributor (what a concept) so here’s what we have to offer your newest partners: truly some of the best champagne we’ve ever tasted or hope to taste. The Delavenne winery from the heart of this most iconic French appellation has married the art of winemaking and alchemy, fermenting the juice of choice Chardonnay grapes until they turn to liquid gold (or fireworks on the tongue, as the case may be.)
Gifts for employees
Pampered employees will pamper us right back in return. We believe firmly in showering workers with accolades and benefits that extend well beyond their salary, and that includes delicious and heart-felt presents. Here are a couple favorites.
- Year of Firsts – $100-200
You don’t have to wait for a work event to show your employees you care. Let them know they’re a part of the family by helping to celebrate the landmarks of their lives, as well.
This Year of Firsts tasting set is one delectable way to shower love on the newlywed in your office clan. Let them toast their happy future on you with 6 to 12 bottles to commemorate the engagement, the dress, the wedding, the honeymoon… With support from you, they’re sure to feel the love even more.
Other offerings from Argaux
Our most popular (and our personal favorite) gift idea from the Argaux cellars knows no bounds, and can make a great gift for colleagues, clients, and employees alike, or as a party activity at your organization’s next celebration.
- Blind Wine Tasting Kit – $100-150
The Blind Tasting Kit is tasty, fun and educational, and makes a great introduction to the world of wine for beginning sommeliers, and a challenge for seasoned oenophiles. Each kit comes with 2 – 4 bottles of identity-concealed wines which you taste, using clues like color, viscosity and flavor to discern the type (down to the year!) before unwrapping and revealing the wine’s true name. It’s a great time, and makes a great gift for groups and individuals alike.
Still feeling stuck? No worries: Argaux offers a special corporate gifting feature that can help you to find the perfect present for the right occasion and recipient. Head on over to our Corporate Gift form to get started.

Tools for Building a Strong Company Culture (With Wine!)
The contemporary workforce wants to gain meaning from their professional role as much as a paycheck. The expected scope of our jobs often extends beyond our daily responsibilities, and as we continue to give and give and give to our work, it’s important to feel like we’re a part of something bigger than ourselves.
And that’s where the company culture can come in and lay down some guidelines which help us to see the impact we ourselves are having on the wider world, as well as the extracurricular work our employers are doing to help make our home planet a better place.
But company culture doesn’t just have to tackle the big-picture stuff: we can start small by creating better equity, thoughtfulness, and creativity within the bounds of our workplace, first. Here are a few creative (and delicious) ideas to help you juice up your organization’s company culture.
Kits, bottles, and fun activities to help fortify your company culture
Whether you’re team-building, inspiring introspection, or just treating your people to a good time, these gifts from the Argaux cellars can help.
- Wine 101 Tasting Kit – $100
Not sure where to start? You’re not alone. Our team of sommeliers has put together a Wine 101 “starter kit” to make it easy for you.
So as your team sits down to experience the differences in a Cabernet vs. a Pinot Noir, this can found a discussion where the team discovers what they like and don’t like in each wine and these classic expressions of classic grape varieties.
- Women in Wine Tasting Set – $85
Cultural consideration: equity and representation.
DEI is making the top of many organizational discussions, and this tasting kit can act as another anchor for a longer conversation about the importance of representation and equity within the workforce.
The two bottles included in this kit are wines with a cause – one donating all its proceeds to women’s empowerment charities, and one employing exclusively village women to found better gender equity in the South African wine industry.
So, once you pop the cork on each, team leads might start a discussion with their people about the implication of women’s empowerment in the workforce, and the good these wine-mogul gals are doing in their communities.
How can you replicate these ideas and efforts to promote equality and justice in your own working lives? What is your company doing to build equity for marginalized workers? Let’s talk about it over drinks.
- Blind Tasting Kit – $85-150
Cultural consideration: curiosity and problem solving.
Creative thinking and attention to detail are valuable assets to bring with you to work, no matter your industry.
The Blind Tasting Kit was designed to be a fun learning experience that lets the sipper discover more about the world of wine and deepen their own oenophilic knowledge. But it can also act as an engaging activity that helps to inspire close looking, problem solving, and teamwork as you and your people try to discern the identities of the mystery wines included in the kit.
Listen, this can be a hard task for beginners, but that’s no reason to give up and drown your sorrows if you don’t get it right the first time. We love a challenge, especially one in which we are encouraged to taste delicious wine. How many business problems can this philosophy apply to?
- Taste of Italy Food & Wine Gift Set – $100-$125
We’ve created the ultimate Italian dinner party starter kit for those who appreciate quality ingredients and a home cooked meal.
Here’s our vision: a team bonding dinner party where you and your people choose a few dishes to pair with a choice bottle of wine and then get together to cook and enjoy that dinner together. What do you think?
Get together with these bottles, Italian goodies, and get inspired.
- Sommelier-guided tasting experience – Flat rate
Cultural consideration: team spirit and community.
Argaux offers both private guided tastings as well as participatory online AND in-person events welcoming of teams from all industries. Part of building a healthy and long-lasting company culture is weaving in space for fun, rest, and relaxation. Not all of your team bonding experiences have to be packed with learning opportunities or conceptual meaning – they can simply be about enjoying a glass of wine and enjoying each other’s company. This kind of bonding experience generates its own meaning.
